'It isn't by getting out of the world that we become enlightened, but by getting into the world by getting so tuned in that we can ride the waves of our existence and never get tossed because we become the waves.'
? Ken Kesey
Being aware of spirituality and guiding others to choose the path of enlightenment is a noble task. An individual who is changing the world one day at a time is Bhai Manvir Singh UK, who has been inspirational when giving guidance to the new generation. Born in 1985 in Oxfordshire, Singh is a British Sikh educator, researcher, faith consultant, and chaplain who has consistently spread the message of finding peace within. Being a Gurbani artist and spiritual speaker, Bhai Manvir Singh UK has read Sikh history and philosophies. He has been pursuing his passion for teaching young individuals the importance of choosing the truth. When individuals choose to speak the truth, they are on the path to enlightenment which is crucial in being authentic. Some instances may make an individual doubt themselves, but it is essential to practice steadfastness. Bhai Manvir Singh UK as a child, took a while to follow Sikhism completely and used to cut his hair but soon realised that Kesh (unshorn hair) was his calling.
'You are never alone. You are eternally connected with everyone.'
? Amit Ray
As a child, Singh would go to the Gurdwara Sahib, a place where Sikhs go for prayer and worship to feel close to Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Gurdwara Sahib is a sacred place for Sikhs where religious ceremonies take place in which people can learn about Sikh traditions and customs. Singh is well-educated and has chosen to study Sikhism. Singh has studied Philosophy and Religious Studies from the Associateship of King's College (AKC). He has finished his MPhil Sikh Studies from PGCE Secondary Education (Religious Education). As of 2021, Bhai Manvir Singh UK is studying MPA in Faith Leadership. When Singh was a teenager, there were not many youngsters who would be Keshdari, and Singh felt out of place. Singh remembered that he always liked to wear the Pagh (turban), which made him feel part of the community. With his father's help, Singh would wear the Pagh and listen to the preachers at the Gurdwara Sahib.
While he was young, Singh would cut his hair and desired to wear a turban. Eventually, Singh began his journey of being utterly devoted to the preaching of Guru Nanak. When a person decides to practice spirituality, they begin to feel peace and happiness, leading to success. Spirituality is all about finding the true purpose of life, allowing individuals to see a clearer picture of their internal struggles. Singh has been a speaker at Khalsa Camps worldwide, and in 2020 he was honoured by World Sikh Parliament. In 2009 Singh published a thesis, 'An ethnographic study of the concept and development of the Gurdwara in the UK.' In June 2020, he authored a contemporary contextual translation with supplementary notes and an explanation of the Sikh Rehat Maryada. There are times when individuals lack someone to guide them in living a fulfilled life based on the ancient tried and tested wisdom of the Sikh Gurus. For such moments, the Sikh Rehat Maryada explanation book written by Bhai Manvir Singh UK helps to empower the individual to seek wisdom and knowledge themselves.
'Your own Self-Realisation is the greatest service you can render the world.'
? Ramana Maharshi
Bhai Manvir Singh UK journey to self-realisation and returning to his roots demonstrates the power of grace. Singh has been incredible when it comes to defining a path to find oneself. When a person adopts spirituality, they will head towards a life filled with peace and tranquility. Singh has been a long journey as he was once unsure of what he wanted to do regarding his passion for his religion. Singh has been a ray of hope for youngsters who look up to him to seek motivation and inspiration. As there are a lot of barriers that an individual may face, a person should remain devoted and self-motivated to succeed in life. Singh has been consistently telling religious stories with a solid message to help the younger generation become self-reliant and believe in themselves. Many people go about their lives with the understanding to remain mediocre. It is vital to remember that when individuals have the chance to be extraordinary, they should grab the chance with both hands.
Singh has been phenomenal when it comes to finding his calling and then pursuing it wholeheartedly. A budding and growing person can learn a lot from Singh as he himself was doubtful about his future. Singh was facing confusion when he was growing up regarding how he wanted to lead his life. With hard work and the ability to be self-sufficient, Singh has been immaculate when guiding and mentoring individuals to find their purpose in life. After darkness, there is always a ray of light because if the sun sets, it will rise again the next day. It is all about patience and being present in the moment. Sometimes individuals will feel that they are not good enough, and for that, one needs to exercise confidence and have faith in their ability to shine. Singh has been incredible in finding spirituality and has been an excellent example of resilience and consistency.
