Polls show Hillary Clinton gaining edge over Trump
Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and handling of Trump University case causes unease
Trump says only Muslims from “terrorist countries” to be banned from the U.S.
WASHINGTON, U.S. – Two new polls on the U.S. presidential elections reportedly showed that Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton edged over presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump to secure a double-digit lead.
According to reports, the poll gives Clinton a 51-39 lead against Trump, with an increase of 12 percentage points, where both candidates were at a statistical tie in May.
The poll results reportedly indicate that a large majority have registered their growing unease over Trump’s candidacy and see him as “discriminatory and unqualified.”
His controversial statements, including an anti-Muslim rhetoric and his handling of both terrorism and the Trump University legal battle, have reportedly led to a plunge in support.
Further, as election dates loom large, 56 percent of the public at large claims the celebrity business mogul stands against their beliefs, while 64 percent believe he does not have the necessary credentials to be president.
However, reports added that the disapproval was aimed towards Clinton as well, with a slim majority criticising the way she handled questions over her use of a personal email server while she was Secretary of State.
Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Fred Yang reportedly said, “Donald Trump has had the worst month one can imagine, but Clinton’s negatives are so high the net impact on the ballot is almost invisible.”
Meanwhile, upon returning from Scotland, Donald Trump has reportedly softened his proposed Muslim ban, saying that only Muslims from “terrorist countries” should not be allowed.
He reportedly did not specify which countries fall in this category, but clarified that it "wouldn’t bother" him if Scottish Muslims entered the United States.
